Provided by Dr. Jessica Tan
Straighter teeth and a beautiful, healthy smile have been shown to increase confidence and happiness in people of all ages. Moreover, for teeth or jaws that do not fit together properly, orthodontic treatment can improve alignment, function and overall health. Left untreated, these symptoms often cause speech difficulty, premature tooth wear and even increase the chance of injury to teeth and jaw joints.

Metal braces
Traditional metal braces are made of high quality stainless steel or titanium. Brackets are attached to the teeth using special glue that bonds them to the tooth surface and holds them in place.
Ceramic Braces
Ceramic braces are a clear alternative to metal braces that use clear tooth coloured brackets. The advantage being that are they are less noticeable. Often a great choice for adults and teenagers.
Invisalign® and Clear Aligner
Treatment
Invisalign®, also known as clear-aligners are orthodontic devices that employ incremental transparent aligners to adjust teeth as an alternative to dental braces. Dr. Jessica Tan is a Premier Provider of Invisalign® treatments.
Early Interceptive/ Preventive treatment
Early treatment (also known as Phase One or Interceptive) typically begins before the age of nine. The goal is to normalize jaw growth and certain bite problems such as an underbite or crossbite. This type of treatment helps permanent teeth come in properly, minimizing the level of treatments that may be required later on in life.
Dentofacial Orthopedics
Dentofacial orthopedics is a treatment that helps normalize the growth of a patient's bone structure to correct any imbalances of the face and jaws. This process often involves a two-phase treatment and often begins around the age of seven or eight.
Orthodontic Treatment for Corrective Jaw Surgery
Corrective jaw surgery (known as Orthognathic surgery) treats and corrects abnormalities of the facial bones, specifically the jaws and the teeth and is used to correct sleep apnea. Frequently, these abnormalities cause difficulty with chewing, talking, sleeping and more. In conjunction with orthodontic treatment provided by Dr. Tan and her team, Orthognathic surgery corrects problems and improves the overall appearance of the facial profile.
Orthodontic Treatments for Cleft Lip and Palate Conditions
Treatment of young patients with a cleft lip and palate can be challenging and involves an interdisciplinary team of medical and dental specialists. Since 0000, Dr. Jessica Tan has served on the dental faculty for the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario since 1998, providing orthodontic care for children and adolescents with cleft lip and palate and complex craniofacial abnormalities.
Nasoalveolar Moulding
Nasoalveolar moulding (NAM) is a nonsurgical method for infants to reshape the gums, lip and nostrils with a plastic plate prior to cleft lip and palate surgery. Pre-surgery molding may decrease the number of surgeries a child needs because it makes the cleft less severe, improving the initial surgical results.
